    Social housing is housing that is made available at below market rates to low income households who are unable to access suitable accommodation in the private rental market. It is comprised of public housing, community housing, state-owned and managed Indigenous housing (SOMIH) and Indigenous community housing. This report provides an overview of national-level, state and territory findings, as well as comparisons across public housing, state owned and managed Indigenous housing and community housing tenants. The report shows that the majority of tenants are satisfied with the services provided by their housing organisation, with community housing tenants the most satisfied. Public housing.

      Indigenous Australians suffer from less adequate and affordable housing than any other group despite the efforts of national and state governments, especially in the past 30 .   At 30 June , mainstream community housing managed 14% of social housing dwellings (up from 7% in and 11% in ), public housing managed 79% and the remaining 6% were managed by Indigenous community housing (4%) and state owned and managed Indigenous housing .
